Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about DisInfo Monitor, scope, confidence levels, and methodology.

What is DisInfo Monitor?

DisInfo Monitor is an independent real-time monitoring platform for disinformation and influence operations. It tracks 567 public sources across 14 networks (Russia, China, Iran, MAGA, far-right, far-left, etc.) and publishes time-stamped signals, emerging narratives, and documented operation dossiers.

What is FIMI?

FIMI means Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference. The term is used by the EEAS (European External Action Service) to describe coordinated behavior, not necessarily illegal, deployed by state or non-state actors to harm a democratic process or universal value. See our glossary for the detailed definition.

Does a source's presence on your wire mean it spreads disinformation?

No. A source's presence on the wire only indicates it was detected in our monitoring window - it implies neither truth, falsehood, nor accusation. Only published signals (after review) carry a qualification, always accompanied by its confidence level and limits.

What does a signal's confidence level mean?

The confidence level (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW) reflects the strength of the evidence available at the time of publication. It is an analytical priority, not a verdict. A high-confidence signal warrants attention; a low-confidence signal remains a lead that needs corroboration.

Which sources do you track?

We continuously track 567+ public sources: news sites, Telegram channels, X/Twitter accounts, blogs, agency RSS feeds, government pages. The full list is published on the Sources page with each item's presumed network and status. We do not intercept any private communications.

How often is the data updated?

The wire and dashboard are refreshed hourly. Signals are published after editorial review, typically several times per week. The weekly brief is sent every Monday morning (Paris time) and archived on the site.

Is the service free?

Yes. The site, signals, narratives, operation dossiers, and weekly brief are freely accessible. Newsletter subscription requires only an email address, which is never shared.

How do you identify coordinated operations?

We combine coordination-signal analysis (cadence, account clustering, narrative recycling, technical fingerprints) with publications from reference bodies (EEAS, Viginum, EU DisinfoLab, Meta Threat Reports). Each operation dossier states its evidence level and limits.

Can a source or signal be removed?

Yes. We publish and maintain a corrections policy: any person or organization can request a correction or removal via the Contact page. Corrections are dated and logged. See the methodology for the full process.

In which languages is the site available?

The site is available in French (primary language) and English. Signals, dossiers, and narratives are translated where relevant. The weekly brief is published in French.

How can press or investigators contact DisInfo Monitor?

The Press page lists resources for journalists (fast-track access, quotable excerpts, contacts). For any other request - reports, corrections, collaborations - use the Contact page.
